Where the work began.
An advisory firm spent substantial analyst time assembling first drafts from internal reports, project documents and approved reference material. Fluent AI summaries did not answer the reviewers' central questions: which documents supported an answer, and were those documents current?
The firm needed a practical way to inspect a draft against its evidence without treating polished language as proof of accuracy.
02 / The approach
What we did.
RFA paired an AI engineer and knowledge operations specialist with a senior client analyst. They used retrieval augmented generation, or RAG, to find relevant passages in an approved collection before preparing a response.
The team prepared documents with their titles, version information, section boundaries and source locations intact. They applied access controls during retrieval, before material reached the generation step, so access permissions remained part of the research workflow.
RFA connected draft claims to supporting passages and separated documented evidence from interpretation. The workflow flagged gaps when the collection did not provide enough support. Citations stayed available for inspection; a citation alone did not establish that the answer was correct.
The team defined an evaluation plan using representative research questions and review by subject matter experts. The criteria covered retrieval relevance, factual support, citation accuracy, completeness and handling of questions beyond the collection's evidence. Analysts retained ownership of the final advice and client deliverable.
03 / The scope
What the work covered.
- Approved document preparation
- Permission aware retrieval and draft generation
- Expert reviewed evaluation set
- Drafting and review measurement plan
04 / The outcome
What the work established
The work established a research drafting workflow with an approved source collection, access controls, inspectable passages and clear responsibility for expert review.
The measurement plan covered total drafting and review effort alongside correction rates. The evaluation criteria defined how to assess answer quality.
A fluent paragraph isn’t especially useful if the analyst has to start the research again to verify it. The source references were essential. They gave reviewers a practical way to inspect the draft and recognize where the evidence was thin.
