01Software alongside physical systems
Explain how software interacts with equipment, testing and operational users. Clarify the boundaries between application development, controls and specialist engineering. Ask candidates to describe an interface or reliability problem they owned, including how they validated a fix and communicated its limits to the wider team.
02Data and integration ownership
Describe source systems, reporting audiences and the decisions that depend on the output. Distinguish pipeline development from analysis and ongoing support. A practical assessment should examine validation, failed runs and changing data definitions, not simply familiarity with a preferred analytics stack or cloud platform.
03Finance supporting manufacturing decisions
Define how inventory, purchasing, projects and recurring reporting reach the finance function. Clarify which decisions the employee will inform and which approvals they own. Assess examples of tracing discrepancies and explaining their operational effect without losing the distinction between established facts and working assumptions.
04Leadership with a workable mandate
For a technical, product or finance leader, identify the immediate problem and the resources available to address it. Explain how authority is shared with the founder and existing managers. Candidates need the same clarity about success, constraints and collaboration that interviewers need when assessing relevant experience.
